00:00:47 Charles Clark

Let the Thrive tribe.

00:00:48 Charles Clark

Know who is Jill?

00:00:51 Jill Monaco

Joe Monaco, you know, I like to be a little mysterious, but, you know, considering you're asking me that question, you know, number one, what you just said, I just, I love Jesus.

00:01:01 Jill Monaco

And I didn't always didn't until my.

00:01:03 Jill Monaco

30S and everything I do is just about being the best version of who he.

00:01:09 Jill Monaco

Created me to be.

00:01:11 Jill Monaco

I love just self improvement.

00:01:13 Jill Monaco

I am a junkie for anything that helps me learn who.

00:01:16 Jill Monaco

God is and who I am and.

00:01:18 Jill Monaco

And how to love others?

00:01:19 Jill Monaco

Well, you know, so I'm a obviously speaker life.

00:01:23 Jill Monaco

Coach, a podcaster, you know all the author.

00:01:25 Jill Monaco

All the things.

00:01:26 Charles Clark

Yeah, man, that, that, that's incredible.

00:01:29 Charles Clark

You know, we were talking behind the scenes a little earlier.

00:01:31 Charles Clark

And you shared.

00:01:34 Charles Clark

Hey, I'm so sorry to hear about your your injury that happened and you know the the thing that I was really sharing with you is that I'm, I'm thankful for it.

00:01:42 Charles Clark

I'm thankful that I I had that moment in my life because I never would be where I am today and I think a lot of times we don't see that.

00:01:51 Charles Clark

Bigger picture to be thankful for certain things in our life now.

00:01:55 Charles Clark

Certain things in our life.

00:01:56 Charles Clark

They're just really unfortunate.

00:01:59 Charles Clark

And sometimes we just don't see the lesson in that.

00:02:02 Charles Clark

But for me, I did see the blessing behind it all.

00:02:05 Charles Clark

And maybe for you, can you reflect on a time in your life where.

00:02:11 Charles Clark

Your life pivoted, you know, I know you were a a singer and something happened there.

00:02:18 Charles Clark

What was?

00:02:19 Charles Clark

What was the beauty in all that?

00:02:21 Charles Clark

Or was there any beauty in in in what you went through to to become the person you are today?

00:02:27 Jill Monaco

Yeah, I can relate to.

00:02:29 Jill Monaco

The injury and the area.

00:02:31 Jill Monaco

That you feel felt like.

00:02:32 Jill Monaco

This is my lane this.

00:02:33 Jill Monaco

Is what I'm called to.

00:02:34 Jill Monaco

I'm going to do the rest of my life and I was a professional singer.

00:02:38 Jill Monaco

My degree was musical theater.

00:02:40 Jill Monaco

That's all I ever did.

00:02:41 Jill Monaco

From the time I was at.

00:02:42 Jill Monaco

Good and graduate college and one of my first jobs out of college was singing backups for Perry Como.

00:02:49 Jill Monaco

Maybe the older generations going to remember.

00:02:51 Speaker 3

Who he is, but.

00:02:52 Jill Monaco

He was pretty popular in his Christmas show.

00:02:54 Jill Monaco

He's like a Frank Sinatra and you know, here I'm 21 years old and I'm singing backups for this guy. I introduced him to.

00:03:00 Jill Monaco

Billy Joel, like that is just.

00:03:03 Jill Monaco

Such a fun.

00:03:03 Jill Monaco

Story like we're on tour and and so a couple of years later I developed a system on my vocal cord and so I couldn't.

00:03:12 Jill Monaco

I can only sing a couple notes like my range was gone.

00:03:15 Jill Monaco

I was a soprano and it was.

00:03:17 Jill Monaco

You know, and it was like and it.

00:03:19 Jill Monaco

And it wasn't like nodes, which a lot of singers get nodules.

00:03:22 Jill Monaco

This was an actual cyst and and so after trying to treat it naturally, I had to go in for surgery.

00:03:28 Jill Monaco

And they said the thing.

00:03:30 Jill Monaco

You need to understand is you may never sing.

00:03:31 Jill Monaco

Again, and I was really faced. Harry, I'm 25 years old, faced with.

00:03:37 Jill Monaco

Oh my gosh, the thing I've only done all my life and.

00:03:39 Jill Monaco

My identity is in that what will?

00:03:41 Jill Monaco

I do.

00:03:42 Jill Monaco

But I decided to take the risk because I.

00:03:44 Jill Monaco

Was like what I'm doing now isn't working, so you know.

00:03:47 Jill Monaco

And you're kind of when you're that young.

00:03:49 Jill Monaco

You're like, let's just try it.

00:03:50 Jill Monaco

You know, now that I'm older, I might have been hesitated, but had the surgery and how it really changed me is that it during that time of having to prep for it, and even after I couldn't sing.

00:04:01 Jill Monaco

For a couple of months, I couldn't talk.

00:04:03 Jill Monaco

I wasn't allowed to talk.

00:04:04 Jill Monaco

For a month and then I couldn't sing for a couple of months as my vocal cords healed and and even even after that, my voice wasn't the same.

00:04:04 Charles Clark

Oh man.

00:04:13 Jill Monaco

It was still good, but it wasn't what it was.

00:04:16 Charles Clark

You know how it felt when you were hitting those notes and how smooth it was.

00:04:21 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:04:22 Jill Monaco

So you know it it chips away at your.

00:04:25 Jill Monaco

Pride and your identity a little bit.

00:04:27 Jill Monaco

And so anyway, yeah, so I did.

00:04:29 Jill Monaco

I continued to tour and you?

00:04:31 Jill Monaco

Know did some really.

00:04:32 Jill Monaco

Amazing projects and did voiceovers and on camera.

00:04:35 Jill Monaco

Marshalls and all that found other avenues, you know, to do things.

00:04:40 Jill Monaco

But I think it does it create what you said.

00:04:42 Jill Monaco

It makes you into the person.

00:04:44 Jill Monaco

These hardships are sometimes the way that you were meant to go, but nothing is wasted like God has not wasted that time at all.

00:04:52 Jill Monaco

All the skills I learned as an actor, I'm still.

00:04:54 Jill Monaco

Using today, right?

00:04:55 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:04:55 Jill Monaco

I'm showing up here.

00:04:58 Charles Clark

I love the fact that you said that and that is so encouraging.

00:05:01 Charles Clark

Nothing is wasted.

00:05:04 Charles Clark

No matter what you've been through in your life, you can use it and and there's two sides of all that.

00:05:12 Charles Clark

There's two sides to the story, right?

00:05:14 Charles Clark

You you can waste it if you want to or.

00:05:17 Speaker 3

Right.

00:05:17 Charles Clark

You can or you can use it and that I think that's the beautiful thing about purpose.

00:05:21 Charles Clark

When my grandma, she makes her sweet potato.

00:05:25 Charles Clark

She taught me one valuable lesson, and that was, you know, she she used all of the sweet ingredients, you know, the sweet potato, the the sugar, the the the butter.

00:05:36 Charles Clark

She's mixing it all up and she, she said to me when she was doing it.

00:05:41 Charles Clark

It just doesn't taste right.

00:05:42 Charles Clark

And then she went to the cabinet and she grabbed a.

00:05:45 Charles Clark

Some salt.

00:05:47 Charles Clark

And she added a pinch of salt in there.

00:05:49 Charles Clark

And she said this is going to bring all the flavor together and let me tell you, it was the best thing ever.

00:05:53 Charles Clark

And so I just want to encourage people out there.

00:05:55 Charles Clark

Sometimes you need that.

00:05:56 Charles Clark

Salt in your life to make.

00:05:59 Charles Clark

To show.

00:06:00 Charles Clark

Who you truly are meant to be right.

00:06:03 Charles Clark

And and you can utilize because nothing is wasted.

00:06:06 Charles Clark

You got a purpose on your life.

00:06:07 Charles Clark

And so I know there's so many speakers out there, or people who want to become speakers who are afraid to use that story, who are afraid to add that pinch of salt, that rawness to you.

00:06:20 Charles Clark

What would you tell them?

00:06:21 Charles Clark

Right.

00:06:23 Jill Monaco

Well, first thing I'd say is I get you, I mean there's pieces of my story even going back to childhood with abuse that I didn't want to tell anyone about.

00:06:32 Jill Monaco

You know it was.

00:06:33 Jill Monaco

I carried shame about it, or like I said, our identities wrapped up in it. And so the first thing I'd say is, you know, the time God's timing is.

00:06:41 Jill Monaco

Perfect. And he's a wise.

00:06:44 Jill Monaco

Master. So if you don't feel ready to Share your story yet, then from a faith-based perspective.

00:06:49 Jill Monaco

I'm like what?

00:06:50 Jill Monaco

Do you need to be learning and doing now until you?

00:06:52 Jill Monaco

Are ready until you feel called.

00:06:54 Jill Monaco

The preparation is just as important as the performance.

00:06:59 Jill Monaco

If we just get out there and perform and we haven't done any of the hard work, we're going to embarrass ourselves in front of lots of people.

00:07:05 Jill Monaco

So I'm always like, let me embarrass.

00:07:06 Jill Monaco

Myself in front of a few people.

00:07:08 Jill Monaco

I'm working it out.

00:07:11 Jill Monaco

And the second thing is you don't have to be 100% healed or secure in order for God to use your story.

00:07:19 Jill Monaco

And so everyone on the journey can share right where they're at.

00:07:23 Jill Monaco

We look at the Psalms.

00:07:24 Jill Monaco

And David, he was a hot.

00:07:25 Jill Monaco

Mess, you know, I mean.

00:07:26 Speaker 3

What the fair was someone and then and and the Sheba and and God still used.

00:07:33 Jill Monaco

His his family.

00:07:34 Charles Clark

Right.

00:07:34 Jill Monaco

So just use.

00:07:36 Jill Monaco

I think my greatest advice is.

00:07:38 Jill Monaco

Just use what you got.

00:07:38 Jill Monaco

Right now, right now, whatever you are, whatever you have, take one little step forward.

00:07:45 Jill Monaco

And that will get you to the place you're ultimately supposed to be, or where you want to be, but nobody just arrives, nobody ends up just like what you look like on your fabulous, you know, website.

00:07:56 Jill Monaco

Charles, like we don't we.

00:07:58 Jill Monaco

Don't look like.

00:07:58 Jill Monaco

That all the time, there's a process.

00:08:01 Charles Clark

And I think that was the thing that we kind of talked about earlier too, right?

00:08:04 Charles Clark

We think we got to.

00:08:06 Charles Clark

Look a certain way and and be someone to say my story is good.

00:08:12 Charles Clark

But like you just said, you'll where I am is enough right now.

00:08:16 Charles Clark

And when we begin to love that person you, you'll show up becomes impactful.

00:08:21 Charles Clark

Now it's not based off of the superficial validation that most people try to go for.

00:08:26 Charles Clark

You know, we're we're made with a purpose, not some price tag, not some likes.

00:08:32 Charles Clark

We've made so much more than that and and you got to see that.

00:08:35 Charles Clark

So take that one step tribe.

00:08:38 Charles Clark

I I'm really enjoying this this podcast, by the way.

00:08:40 Charles Clark

I'm like in the moment I I I've been.

00:08:44

I'm liking it too.

00:08:46 Charles Clark

I've been traveling a lot these past couple of weeks.

00:08:50 Charles Clark

Well, mainly last week I just getting home, you know, we had to reschedule the podcast because my flight got canceled.

00:08:57 Charles Clark

And rushed home got caught.

00:08:59 Charles Clark

The flight had a little layover and and now we're here.

00:09:03 Charles Clark

How is managing?

00:09:08 Charles Clark

Your life when you know because you you travel around speaking you, you're in different cities.

00:09:13 Charles Clark

What what's your secret to?

00:09:16 Charles Clark

To managing yourself well, how do you keep yourself strong and available to create impact when you're on that stage?

00:09:26 Jill Monaco

Yeah, it's such a good question.

00:09:29 Jill Monaco

And I think everybody's going to be wired different, right, so.

00:09:33 Jill Monaco

How I do?

00:09:33 Jill Monaco

It just to give a.

00:09:34 Jill Monaco

A A background for me.

00:09:36 Jill Monaco

First of all, I love God, so time with God I have to make time for him.

00:09:41 Jill Monaco

Every week, every day, in order to just keep me humble, keep.

00:09:45 Jill Monaco

Me grounded and keep me energized.

00:09:48 Jill Monaco

I find that time.

00:09:49 Jill Monaco

With him allows me to rest.

00:09:52 Jill Monaco

I remember when I was really burnt out in one season and I was asking the Lord like I'm like, I can't do it all.

00:09:59 Jill Monaco

Thank you for all.

00:09:59 Jill Monaco

The opportunities am I saying yes to things I.

00:10:02 Jill Monaco

Shouldn't say yes to you.

00:10:03 Jill Monaco

Know you've got to evaluate and see.

00:10:06 Jill Monaco

What are the spiritual?

00:10:07 Jill Monaco

Things in your life.

00:10:08 Jill Monaco

What are the practical?

00:10:09 Jill Monaco

What are the emotional?

00:10:10 Jill Monaco

What are the physical?

00:10:12 Jill Monaco

You are a, you know as a.

00:10:14 Jill Monaco

Human being, we are body, soul, spirit.

00:10:16 Jill Monaco

And so for me at that time it was.

00:10:18 Jill Monaco

God's Angel. Everything good that you're going?

00:10:20 Jill Monaco

To do is going to come from.

00:10:21 Jill Monaco

A place of rest.

00:10:23 Jill Monaco

And so for me, I have to build margin and rest in my time because I'm an introvert, right?

00:10:30 Jill Monaco

So extroverts, they get energized by spending more time traveling.

00:10:33 Jill Monaco

I get depleted.

00:10:35 Jill Monaco

So for me, I have to find that time to get re energized and then I also a second thing is as.

00:10:43 Jill Monaco

Far as I'm.

00:10:43 Jill Monaco

When I'm traveling and all that.

00:10:45 Jill Monaco

I always make the day before and the.

00:10:47 Jill Monaco

Day after speaking.

00:10:48 Jill Monaco

No phone calls, no commitments.

00:10:51 Jill Monaco

It just helps me get in the right mindset for the people that I'm going.

00:10:54 Jill Monaco

To be sharing.

00:10:55 Jill Monaco

With I will be intentional and thoughtful.

00:10:55 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:10:57 Jill Monaco

I don't want to be rushed and exhaust.

00:10:59 Jill Monaco

And then when I get home, I need to recharge because that it drains me.

00:11:04 Jill Monaco

So those are just some of the habits that I've developed that work for me.

00:11:07 Jill Monaco

So all the.

00:11:08 Jill Monaco

Introverts out there.

00:11:09 Jill Monaco

Can go.

00:11:10 Jill Monaco

I see that.

00:11:10 Charles Clark

Yeah, I I had.

00:11:12 Charles Clark

I had written some things down and and your your step processing and all of this to maintain yourself and to show up in a meaningful way is one rest right.

00:11:23 Charles Clark

Without rest we can't perform well and two is stop right.

00:11:30 Charles Clark

You know, is the difference between like.

00:11:33 Charles Clark

You know, resting and then doing nothing, right. I can find. I can find rest. It's a break, right? I take a little break, but then when there's an intentional stop, there is room for your yourself to show up, to show love for you and you know self-care. But then the recharge.

00:11:53 Charles Clark

Aspect I'm curious to know what that looks like for you.

00:11:55 Charles Clark

What's your reach?

00:11:56 Charles Clark

Large oh man, that's.

00:11:59 Jill Monaco

I love to go for walks in nature.

00:12:01 Jill Monaco

You just get me into, you know, walking barefoot in the grass.

00:12:05 Jill Monaco

Like just recharging, I also do some woo stuff.

00:12:09 Jill Monaco

I do red light therapy and a grounding mat so I love because again, body soul spirit.

00:12:14 Jill Monaco

Right.

00:12:14 Charles Clark

Right.

00:12:14 Jill Monaco

Like we if if we are having physical problem.

00:12:16 Jill Monaco

Problems, you know, then it shows up in all kinds of areas.

00:12:20 Jill Monaco

Mean cutting out.

00:12:22 Jill Monaco

Let's just be practical as a health coach because I do health coaching too.

00:12:26 Jill Monaco

Like it's important we don't realize how much of our our happy hormones are made in our gut and if our gut is unhealthy, we have unhealthy thoughts and people don't realize there's that.

00:12:36 Jill Monaco

Body soul comma.

00:12:38 Jill Monaco

So those are some things when I.

00:12:39 Speaker 3

Go to a green room.

00:12:40 Jill Monaco

Like please don't give.

00:12:41 Jill Monaco

Me, sugar, you know, like I'm.

00:12:44 Jill Monaco

Very nice about it.

00:12:45 Jill Monaco

But I'm like, but I always have healthy things that I bring with me because I never want the event person to feel like they.

00:12:50 Jill Monaco

Didn't provide for me, you know.

00:12:51 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:12:52 Jill Monaco

So you just trying to be as gracious as you can request.

00:12:55 Jill Monaco

And if they if they blow.

00:12:56 Jill Monaco

It don't say anything.

00:12:58 Jill Monaco

Just have something.

00:12:59 Jill Monaco

Just have something you can do, you know.

00:13:00 Charles Clark

So so to rest stop recharge strap.

00:13:04 Charles Clark

How can you use that in your life when it when it comes to the mental, physical and spiritual so that you can tap into your best.

00:13:12 Charles Clark

I I love that I love that and I also identify with like taking that rest.

00:13:19 Charles Clark

I tell you one story that really checked me and my my faith.

00:13:28 Charles Clark

I went home.

00:13:29 Charles Clark

It was around Christmas time.

00:13:32 Charles Clark

And my wife was like, alright, just, just, just relax, you know, take a break.

00:13:38 Charles Clark

Don't bring your computer and you tell me not to bring my computer.

00:13:41 Charles Clark

You know my my whole business is on my computer.

00:13:45 Charles Clark

That is my.

00:13:47 Charles Clark

That is my.

00:13:48 Charles Clark

That is my office.

00:13:49 Charles Clark

That's my building.

00:13:50 Charles Clark

That's everything to me.

00:13:51 Charles Clark

That's my enterprise.

00:13:52 Charles Clark

And said don't worry.

00:13:54 Charles Clark

And I was like, OK, I'm gonna try to do this.

00:13:57 Charles Clark

Trying not to bring my computer.

00:13:58 Charles Clark

I brought my computer, but this you like.

00:14:03 Charles Clark

OK, don't use your computer.

00:14:05 Charles Clark

I was like, OK, I'm not gonna use my computer, so I I did not use my computer.

00:14:09 Charles Clark

And let me tell you, when I got back home.

00:14:13 Charles Clark

From my breast, I had more inquiries than I had from the the previous couple weeks by taking intentional time because you know, like I think a lot of times we get what faith is all about faith.

00:14:27 Charles Clark

We tie in this idea that faith without works is dead right?

00:14:30 Charles Clark

We say that all time and we think that that just means.

00:14:30 Speaker 3

Right.

00:14:33 Charles Clark

Alright, I gotta act all day.

00:14:34 Charles Clark

I gotta perform.

00:14:36 Charles Clark

But then there's the part of of of grace and faith, right where you do you do nothing.

00:14:44 Charles Clark

It's just on God's ability because he can see way past your point.

00:14:50 Charles Clark

And he can bless you in that in that stuff that you can't see.

00:14:54 Charles Clark

And I had to learn that.

00:14:56 Charles Clark

I have to work hard.

00:14:58 Charles Clark

But then I.

00:14:58 Charles Clark

Have to rest and in the rest, that's where the grace is.

00:15:02 Charles Clark

And so I'm just encouraged by what you're saying there.

00:15:05 Charles Clark

Like, yeah, take my rest.

00:15:07 Charles Clark

Let me take my break.

00:15:08 Charles Clark

I identify with that so much.

00:15:09 Jill Monaco

We'll perform better from a place of rest.

00:15:10 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:15:12 Jill Monaco

Really. Will you? You're more.

00:15:14 Jill Monaco

Even science shows that.

00:15:15 Jill Monaco

We're more creative.

00:15:16 Jill Monaco

We're more innovative when we're getting and set to say I'm not busy.

00:15:20 Jill Monaco

I've got those busy weeks, especially prepping to speak somewhere.

00:15:23 Jill Monaco

I'm all in.

00:15:25 Jill Monaco

But then you got to recharge.

00:15:26 Jill Monaco

Yeah, it's really good.

00:15:27 Charles Clark

Yeah, so good.

00:15:28 Charles Clark

So what?

00:15:30 Charles Clark

What does it look like for you?

00:15:32 Charles Clark

You know, when when you're traveling, do you?

00:15:36 Charles Clark

Do you enjoy it?

00:15:37 Charles Clark

I know you said that you're a introvert, but what does that look like?

00:15:41 Charles Clark

Kind of?

00:15:41 Charles Clark

Just take me through a day.

00:15:43 Charles Clark

In a life.

00:15:44 Charles Clark

Of of Jill.

00:15:46 Charles Clark

What does that look like when you're going to a conference and and speaking at the event?

00:15:51 Jill Monaco

So leading up to it, like I said, I try and take the day before where there's no meetings.

00:15:56 Jill Monaco

Or calls but.

00:15:57 Jill Monaco

Even the few days leading up to going.

00:15:59 Jill Monaco

To a conference. I'm.

00:16:01 Jill Monaco

More of a soaker like I'll plan months in advance with maybe some notes and an outline and I really don't get my best pieces.

00:16:10 Jill Monaco

Until the night before.

00:16:13 Speaker 3

Like I don't know how many people can relate to that, but at the.

00:16:16 Speaker 3

Beginning I was like, geez, I.

00:16:17 Speaker 3

Have to speak tomorrow.

00:16:18 Speaker 3

I have no idea what I'm going to say.

00:16:20 Speaker 3

I got an outline, you know.

00:16:22 Jill Monaco

And I don't want to show up with egg on my face.

00:16:25 Jill Monaco

And one of the things I learned is if I'm being asked to speak on the topic is because I'm already an expert.

00:16:31 Jill Monaco

You know, there are.

00:16:32 Jill Monaco

They already want me.

00:16:33 Jill Monaco

And one time I was getting ready to speak on stage and I was backstage and I was so nervous.

00:16:37 Jill Monaco

This is early on in.

00:16:38 Jill Monaco

My speaking career, and it was a pretty big audience.

00:16:40 Jill Monaco

And I was like, why are you making me?

00:16:46 Speaker 3

I just didn't want to do it.

00:16:48 Speaker 3

Yeah, and and he said to me, I heard my heart.

00:16:52 Speaker 3

Joe, you are?

00:16:52 Jill Monaco

You're not auditioning.

00:16:53 Jill Monaco

You already got the job.

00:16:56 Speaker 3

Yeah, that's good.

00:16:56 Jill Monaco

And so he used that active reference that I would understand every time you've been.

00:17:01 Jill Monaco

Hired you already got it.

00:17:02 Jill Monaco

So planning and soaking I am refreshing my mind in my memory of.

00:17:07 Jill Monaco

What am I?

00:17:07 Jill Monaco

What do we really want to share?

00:17:09 Jill Monaco

What do I think is important?

00:17:10 Jill Monaco

And then the night before, like whether I've traveled that day and I'm sitting in the hotel getting ready?

00:17:15 Jill Monaco

I'm like, OK God, what else do?

00:17:17 Jill Monaco

This what is?

00:17:18 Jill Monaco

This specific audience need, if I've already shared this message, what new Nuggets do I want to give?

00:17:24 Jill Monaco

Cause we always want to bring something.

00:17:25 Jill Monaco

Fresh, right? What's going on?

00:17:26 Speaker 3

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:17:27 Jill Monaco

In the world, but also what's going on?

00:17:29 Jill Monaco

Fun and, you know to those.

00:17:31 Jill Monaco

That aren't in the faith-based world, let's call it inspired thought. OK, because I believe.

00:17:36 Jill Monaco

God loves all of us and he's always.

00:17:38 Jill Monaco

Speaking to us.

00:17:39 Jill Monaco

And so you can have an inspired thought the night before.

00:17:42 Jill Monaco

So that's kind of and then I've got my I'm old school man.

00:17:45 Jill Monaco

I have a piece of paper right, like I know I should use an iPad or whatever, you know.

00:17:49 Jill Monaco

But I can't scribble these last minute.

00:17:51 Jill Monaco

Notes on it.

00:17:52 Jill Monaco

You know or highlight stuff, so I'm.

00:17:54 Jill Monaco

Totally old school.

00:17:56 Jill Monaco

I guess I could highlight it on iPad but and then when I show up I always, I mean this is just practical stuff, right?

00:18:03 Jill Monaco

I show up early, but I hide. I try not to talk to people before I speak because my mind's just on that and.

00:18:09 Jill Monaco

I don't want.

00:18:10 Jill Monaco

People to feel like I'm ignoring them.

00:18:12 Jill Monaco

Or I don't?

00:18:12 Jill Monaco

Care, isn't it?

00:18:13 Jill Monaco

The worst someone comes up and they just.

00:18:15 Jill Monaco

Love you.

00:18:15 Jill Monaco

And they're like, Oh my gosh.

00:18:16 Jill Monaco

So good to me.

00:18:16 Jill Monaco

And you're like, and you're in a different mind space.

00:18:18 Speaker 3

Yeah, yeah.

00:18:21 Charles Clark

I feel you on that because like it's like I'm I want to be intentional with what I'm about to present.

00:18:29 Charles Clark

It's different for a lot of people.

00:18:30 Charles Clark

Some people can do alright.

00:18:31 Charles Clark

I'm a mingle and go ahead and shake some hands.

00:18:33 Charles Clark

Kiss some babies.

00:18:34 Charles Clark

But I prefer.

00:18:35 Charles Clark

I prefer your part you.

00:18:36 Charles Clark

Know where? Let me just.

00:18:38 Charles Clark

Go put me in this in this green room.

00:18:40 Charles Clark

Over here and I'll just relax.

00:18:43 Charles Clark

I don't want to do all the socializing, but after you, you got me for a good 15.

00:18:46 Jill Monaco

Oh 100%.

00:18:47 Jill Monaco

Yeah, after I'm, I'm all in.

00:18:50 Jill Monaco

In fact, I had a.

00:18:52 Jill Monaco

I had an event I spoke at and I hung out with the people.

00:18:55 Jill Monaco

It was a retreat weekend, so I was there all weekend and I had lunch with them and I hung out with them and I'm exhausted, right?

00:19:01 Jill Monaco

All I want to do is go to bed and after the event person was taking me back to the airport and they said we've never had Someone Like You that.

00:19:09 Jill Monaco

Actually didn't just get up.

00:19:10 Jill Monaco

Speak and.

00:19:11 Jill Monaco

Go hide again and you know.

00:19:13 Jill Monaco

And I appreciated that from her.

00:19:15 Jill Monaco

But I also understand those speakers that are like I've got to speak again the next day.

00:19:18 Jill Monaco

I need to recharge, right?

00:19:20

True, true.

00:19:20 Jill Monaco

So sometimes just communicating that to the event person, but I find if.

00:19:24 Jill Monaco

We're there to speak.

00:19:26 Jill Monaco

We're not just there to give a.

00:19:27 Jill Monaco

Message on the stage we're there to.

00:19:29 Jill Monaco

Serve people and it's an honor.

00:19:31 Jill Monaco

To be able to serve.

00:19:32 Jill Monaco

People, whether it's faith-based or not.

00:19:34 Jill Monaco

But and having some time to interact with people lets them helps them to see you're a real person.

00:19:40 Jill Monaco

They can connect to.

00:19:41 Jill Monaco

Your message because it's about.

00:19:43 Jill Monaco

Creating that loyalty and that community, really.

00:19:47 Jill Monaco

And that will open up other speaking gigs and other relationships that you may never have known that.

00:19:53 Jill Monaco

You needed, but you met at that.

00:19:55 Jill Monaco

Event so you never know who's in the audience so.

00:19:57 Charles Clark

I I like the fact that you said that the loyalty aspect, it's a that's a refreshing definite.

00:20:03 Charles Clark

Right.

00:20:03 Charles Clark

Because I think a lot of times we think that loyalty is just being there being committed into something, but loyalty is showing up differently, right?

00:20:14 Charles Clark

If I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it well.

00:20:17 Charles Clark

And I I was so impressed when I was flying home today with United Airlines shadow to United Airline.

00:20:23 Charles Clark

They don't get, they don't get paid for for me to mention that.

00:20:26 Charles Clark

But the thing that was very impressive about them, they were loyal, right?

00:20:31 Charles Clark

They got us to our destination.

00:20:32 Charles Clark

You know, the biggest thing in airlines is that they want people to have a safe flight.

00:20:37 Charles Clark

They want them to be safe, but they want above and beyond that with their loyalty.

00:20:42 Charles Clark

The captain?

00:20:43 Charles Clark

He went out of his.

00:20:44 Charles Clark

I don't know if you call it a cockpit.

00:20:45 Charles Clark

What do you what do?

00:20:46 Charles Clark

You call it but.

00:20:47 Speaker 3

Yeah, we talked with captains.

00:20:47 Charles Clark

Anyway, he went.

00:20:48 Charles Clark

He he went out, he grabbed the mic and I'm thinking he's getting ready to say something like this is going to be my last flight today.

00:20:56 Charles Clark

But all he all he really wanted to to to say that that day was the same thing that they say.

00:21:02 Charles Clark

When they're in the.

00:21:03 Charles Clark

Stop it.

00:21:03 Charles Clark

And that was hey guys, we we want to let you know we want to get you there safely.

00:21:07 Charles Clark

We're going to try to get you home and in 20 minutes a little earlier, and he shared about the the wind and and how it was going to be a a smooth flight.

00:21:16 Charles Clark

And I was like, who is this guy?

00:21:17 Charles Clark

Why, why am I getting this service like this?

00:21:20 Charles Clark

And then it it trickled all the way down.

00:21:22 Charles Clark

To the to the stewardess.

00:21:24 Charles Clark

They weren't just loyal.

00:21:25 Charles Clark

They didn't just ask if you wanted some.

00:21:27 Charles Clark

The freshman well, he knew me by name.

00:21:30 Charles Clark

He took the time to ask me.

00:21:32 Charles Clark

Clark, is there anything that you you you want?

00:21:34 Charles Clark

I I know this like first class treatment but but I I I felt like the presence of like yo this this is on a whole nother level.

00:21:37 Speaker 3

It is just.

00:21:47 Charles Clark

So when you shared that with me about.

00:21:50 Charles Clark

I'm not just putting on something on the stage, but I want to leave them something that is is memorable.

00:21:58 Charles Clark

My loyalty to them is to give them my best.

00:22:02 Charles Clark

That's beautiful.

00:22:03 Jill Monaco

And how can we go one step above?

00:22:05 Jill Monaco

And beyond other speakers that.

00:22:08 Jill Monaco

You've seen even big names like what's something you can do.

00:22:11 Jill Monaco

It doesn't have to be hanging out afterwards, but what can you do that special?

00:22:16 Jill Monaco

Because we're all made differently, right?

00:22:18 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:22:18 Jill Monaco

So it's not like just mimicking how someone else makes people feel special because.

00:22:23 Jill Monaco

An imitation of somebody else is never as great as an authentic you so.

00:22:27 Charles Clark

Is that a quote right there?

00:22:30 Charles Clark

Tell me one more.

00:22:31 Charles Clark

Time, man, you got me fired up today.

00:22:34 Charles Clark

That's what I needed.

00:22:35 Jill Monaco

Yeah, like copycats.

00:22:38 Jill Monaco

There's nothing special about a copycat, but us being authentically us.

00:22:38 Speaker 3

Right.

00:22:42 Jill Monaco

That's original.

00:22:43 Jill Monaco

That's powerful.

00:22:44 Jill Monaco

We were each made to be powerful in our own sphere of influence.

00:22:48 Jill Monaco

And so if you're trying to be someone else, you won't be you, and you won't show up as you and you don't show up with your injuries and your past trauma and.

00:22:56 Jill Monaco

Your past victories, like all of that, makes me and more empathetic towards.

00:23:01 Jill Monaco

People why I love connect.

00:23:02 Jill Monaco

Testing why when I talk to somebody, I don't look at anyone else when I'm talking to them, I'm not looking.

00:23:08 Jill Monaco

For someone better.

00:23:09 Jill Monaco

That comes out of my own rejection in high school, when I was talking to someone and felt like, you know, they were not interested in talking to me.

00:23:16 Jill Monaco

So I turned that around when I talked to people.

00:23:18 Jill Monaco

I look them in the eye and I do not break eye contact, even if someone else comes up and I can tell, I can feel that.

00:23:23 Jill Monaco

Cousins, if someone else wanted to talk to.

00:23:25 Jill Monaco

Me, I might.

00:23:26 Jill Monaco

Tap them on the shoulder and say hey, give me.

00:23:28 Jill Monaco

A second you.

00:23:29 Jill Monaco

Know while I'm talking to this person.

00:23:31 Jill Monaco

And you know, if they're really trying to get.

00:23:33 Jill Monaco

My attention because otherwise you look rude.

00:23:34 Speaker 3

Right.

00:23:35 Jill Monaco

You know, like not acknowledging them, but.

00:23:38 Jill Monaco

Little things like.

00:23:39 Jill Monaco

That, you know, just it's important to me.

00:23:42 Jill Monaco

I want people to be seen and feel seen and known and loved, and that's one of my values, so I'm always looking for ways to do that uniquely in each each.

00:23:50

Yeah, I.

00:23:51 Charles Clark

Have you know and and just to to wrap up today, right.

00:23:56 Charles Clark

You talked about doing something uniquely.

00:23:59 Charles Clark

And that's what sets you apart from everybody else.

00:24:02 Charles Clark

You know from a from a business aspect of that.

00:24:05 Charles Clark

What was the thing that was so unique about about you when you first started, that you knew if I continue to do this, this is going to take me to the next level?

00:24:15 Charles Clark

I can see longevity and and really creating a business out of that.

00:24:19 Charles Clark

You know, I understand we got the impact that aspect of what we do, but without the income of it, we can't sustain it.

00:24:26 Charles Clark

We can't take care of ourselves alone, our families.

00:24:29 Charles Clark

So what?

00:24:30 Charles Clark

What's what was that for you?

00:24:32 Jill Monaco

It's such a good question.

00:24:34 Jill Monaco

The first thing that came to mind when you said that was the time I was speaking.

00:24:38 Jill Monaco

It was one of my first speaking opportunities and most of them from me in the beginning came out in networking, right people I knew and me saying, hey, I'm you know, trying to start this speaking thing, I feel called to it if you if you or anyone you know could.

00:24:52 Jill Monaco

Use a speaker.

00:24:53 Jill Monaco

Here's the topics I can talk on right?

00:24:55 Jill Monaco

So you have to start somewhere with what you have and.

00:24:57 Jill Monaco

What you know and then.

00:24:59 Jill Monaco

At that, at one of those first speaking gigs.

00:25:02 Jill Monaco

I felt really.

00:25:03 Jill Monaco

Drawn to this one person in the audience and.

00:25:05 Jill Monaco

I was speaking.

00:25:06 Jill Monaco

On a on you know a topic.

00:25:08 Jill Monaco

And I looked right at the person and I said you have the capability to do this.

00:25:13 Jill Monaco

What I'm saying this is for you.

00:25:15 Jill Monaco

And I let I let people be.

00:25:17 Jill Monaco

Highlighted for me in the.

00:25:18 Jill Monaco

Audience and I'll tell you what, and I don't.

00:25:21 Jill Monaco

It's not fake, you know.

00:25:22 Jill Monaco

I'm not doing anything strange.

00:25:25 Jill Monaco

Yeah, but afterwards that one person, I don't do it every time either.

00:25:28 Jill Monaco

Only when I feel.

00:25:30 Jill Monaco

And they'll come up to me and go.

00:25:31 Jill Monaco

That was that was exactly for me.

00:25:32 Jill Monaco

I needed it and it.

00:25:33 Jill Monaco

Took that person to the next level.

00:25:35 Charles Clark

Wow. Wow.

00:25:36 Jill Monaco

And it's also it's so it's helping people realize I haven't arrived just because I'm on the platform that you have greatness too.

00:25:44 Jill Monaco

And so how do you?

00:25:45 Jill Monaco

I think there's a lack of identity for people and feeling special.

00:25:48 Jill Monaco

And so whenever we can do that, it's powerful.

00:25:51 Jill Monaco

So that was the first thing that came to.

00:25:53 Jill Monaco

My mind that I think.

00:25:54 Jill Monaco

Has made me stand apart.

00:25:56 Jill Monaco

You know what from?

00:25:57 Jill Monaco

The feedback I.

00:25:57 Jill Monaco

Get, you know.

00:25:59 Jill Monaco

And then I I.

00:26:00 Jill Monaco

I don't know.

00:26:00 Jill Monaco

I say jokes.

00:26:01 Jill Monaco

All the time that were not planned.

00:26:03 Jill Monaco

And people just laugh at me.

00:26:04 Jill Monaco

So I think that kind of helps.

00:26:06 Jill Monaco

But so everyone listening, if I crack a joke while I'm speaking, it's cause I'm lost.

00:26:10 Jill Monaco

In my notes or I'm nervous.

00:26:13 Speaker 3
