Vince Poscente has a long list of accomplishments to his name. In four short years, he went from recreational skier to Olympic athlete. He is an accomplished speaker and is one of only four people on the planet to be inducted into the USA and Canadian Speaker Halls of Fame. • Speakers are entrepreneurs. They see a need and fill it.
  • We are often motivated by discomfort. Fear is temporary but regret is forever.
  • Do what your competition isn't willing to do. Provide value and opportunities will come.
  • Vince asks himself: how will I serve with love? This will help you find what aligns with your values.
  • Hear about some challenges Charles and Vince faced while pivoting their speaking business in COVID-19 times.

00:00:38 Vince Poscente

Ohh good to be.

00:00:39 Vince Poscente

With you.

00:00:40 Charles Clark

Yeah man so.

00:00:41 Charles Clark

Just let the Thrive Tribe know a little bit about who you are and how. How did you get on this journey of actually impacting people's lives? Going on the stage and getting paid to do what you love?

00:00:53 Vince Poscente

Well, it's I.

00:00:54 Speaker 3

Mean the first thing that came to.

00:00:55 Vince Poscente

Mind was like I was asked.

00:00:57 Vince Poscente

To moderate the Christmas play in kindergarten.

00:01:00 Vince Poscente

And I couldn't even read, so I wasn't following a script, so God only knows.

00:01:04 Vince Poscente

What that ended up sounding like?

00:01:07 Vince Poscente

But I remember being on stage with as the valedictorian.

00:01:12 Vince Poscente

For a high school.

00:01:14 Vince Poscente

And I wanted this speech to be something that.

00:01:17 Vince Poscente

Had impact that people would.

00:01:18 Speaker 3

Go Oh my.

00:01:19 Vince Poscente

Gosh, this is such a a massive benefit to them and that they would be something that would really resonate.

00:01:26 Vince Poscente

And I did the best I could, but at the end I got a a 2600 person standing ovation. I went wait a minute. There's something here. There's something that.

00:01:37 Vince Poscente

About this I call them soul.

00:01:38 Vince Poscente

Taps right, you get a soul tap.

00:01:40 Vince Poscente

You must know what I'm talking about, right?

00:01:42 Vince Poscente

I mean, you're you're following this passion.

00:01:44 Vince Poscente

For your tribe.

00:01:45 Vince Poscente

And and including everybody on this journey to say if if you got that soul tap, if you got that, which really means just pay.

00:01:53 Vince Poscente

Mentioned and that standing ovation back in high school.

00:01:58 Vince Poscente

Led to I'll skip ahead as a. You know I at 26 I started ski racing and at 30 I was in the Olympic Games and I was starting to.

00:02:08 Vince Poscente

Think wait, if I.

00:02:09 Vince Poscente

Win the gold medal in the Olympic Games.

00:02:11 Vince Poscente

I could be a.

00:02:11 Vince Poscente

Speaker right.

00:02:13 Vince Poscente

And another soul tap.

00:02:15 Vince Poscente

Jeez, I'm going all over.

00:02:16 Vince Poscente

The place, but I was I was.

00:02:18 Vince Poscente

That's 14 years old and I saw.

00:02:22 Vince Poscente

Premier of our province, Peter Laheeb.

00:02:25 Vince Poscente

I'm from Canada, Alberta.

00:02:28 Vince Poscente

And he gave a speech.

00:02:29 Vince Poscente

To 5000 people, and it was moving and it was impactful and full of influence.

00:02:35 Vince Poscente

And I just went.

00:02:36 Vince Poscente

That's it.

00:02:37 Vince Poscente

I want to be a politician, but it was in the Olympics that.

00:02:43 Vince Poscente

I thought wait?

00:02:44 Vince Poscente

My exit strategy could be win the gold medal be a speaker.

00:02:47 Vince Poscente

Well, I didn't win in the.

00:02:48 Vince Poscente

Olympic Games

00:02:50 Vince Poscente

But the fact is Charles a good idea won't go away, and so.

00:02:55 Vince Poscente

And and I will say this as well if someone is driven by getting the attention or being the focus of attention.

00:03:05 Vince Poscente

That is, a misdirected soul tab.

00:03:08 Vince Poscente

That's a, that's the like.

00:03:09 Vince Poscente

If you need attention.

00:03:11 Vince Poscente

Don't know if being a professional paid speaker is the best Ave.

00:03:15 Vince Poscente

for you, because really, our.

00:03:17 Vince Poscente

Job is to have impact and influence and if you can do both those things.

00:03:22 Vince Poscente

If you can have impact.

00:03:24 Vince Poscente

Act and you can have influence.

00:03:26 Vince Poscente

Then we're like the the Boy Scouts say we're leaving the the campsite better than.

00:03:30 Vince Poscente

We found it so.

00:03:32 Vince Poscente

That that 18 months after the Olympic Games Group had their speaker canceled, I was asked to give a speech to, I guess, about 90 people.

00:03:46 Vince Poscente

Four people came up after.

00:03:48 Vince Poscente

Individually, separately and said you got to do this.

00:03:52 Vince Poscente

You know you got to do this for a living, right?

00:03:54 Vince Poscente

So a good idea won't go away, and other people can see that.

00:03:59 Vince Poscente

Good idea sometimes when you.

00:04:00 Vince Poscente

Go no, no no.

00:04:01 Vince Poscente

You know, I kept thinking.

00:04:02

Well, I didn't win.

00:04:02 Vince Poscente

The gold medal, right? Well.

00:04:06 Vince Poscente

In the Hall of Fame for speakers in Canada and the Hall of Fame and Speakers in the United States with the likes of Zig Ziglar and Augment Edino, and Jim Rohn and.

00:04:15 Vince Poscente

Even Ronald Reagan, I mean.

00:04:17 Vince Poscente

The great communicator, so you know.

00:04:22 Vince Poscente

A good idea won't go away, so pursue that.

00:04:25 Charles Clark

I I think it's so so fascinating.

00:04:27 Charles Clark

I think we have similar stories of thinking that we need certain things in order to be validated, right?

00:04:33 Charles Clark

In order to feel like I got something to say now because I did this, I think most a lot of people need to understand that what you have to say is good enough for where you are right now.

00:04:46 Speaker 3

Right, yeah I yeah.

00:04:48 Speaker 3

And I I think.

00:04:49 Vince Poscente

It's we are no different speakers than we are entrepreneurs and an entrepreneur sees a need, right?

00:04:57 Vince Poscente

And says wait?

00:04:58 Vince Poscente

I can fulfill that need.

00:05:00 Vince Poscente

This is something that is out there that is not being fulfilled.

00:05:04 Vince Poscente

Now, if you're giving speeches, not saying you Charles, but any of our tribe, anybody that has this, this this idea that they want to be paid to speak?

00:05:16 Vince Poscente

If you're saying the same thing that everybody else is saying, you're not feeling a need.

00:05:22 Vince Poscente

You might be feeling.

00:05:22 Vince Poscente

Your own need.

00:05:24 Vince Poscente

But to to really need or.

00:05:27 Vince Poscente

There are ways to.

00:05:29 Vince Poscente

To talk about something like, let's say you have a A.

00:05:35 Vince Poscente

You know your past is one of persistence, right?

00:05:37 Vince Poscente

You you know never give up.

00:05:39 Vince Poscente

Well, if you said hey guys in your.

00:05:41 Vince Poscente

Speech never give.

00:05:42 Vince Poscente

Up then everybody's going to go.

00:05:45 Vince Poscente

All right, Sherlock, I think.

00:05:47 Vince Poscente

I got that one, you know.

00:05:49 Vince Poscente

If you said something like.

00:05:51 Vince Poscente

Like the first thing you gotta do is give up the first thing you have to do is step back, give up, step back and assess the situation.

00:06:00 Vince Poscente

You cannot persist without first giving up.

00:06:03 Vince Poscente

Then there are they're going to.

00:06:04 Vince Poscente

Go ohh I hadn't thought of it that.

00:06:06 Vince Poscente

Way yeah you.

00:06:07 Vince Poscente

Know, so that's saying there's nothing new under the sun.

00:06:12 Vince Poscente

But you can phrase things.

00:06:15 Vince Poscente

And frame it in a way that has people activate their imagination and that they are influenced and they are impacted in a way that it enriches their lives and they take action.

00:06:26 Charles Clark

In the think differently, what was what was the thing that that person said to you that club Scout Boy Scout?

00:06:33 Charles Clark

Or was was it something that they said that allowed you to say yo like this is?

00:06:40 Charles Clark

This is definitely something that I'm gifted in.

00:06:42 Charles Clark

This is definitely something I need to continue to pursue.

00:06:46 Vince Poscente

Yeah yeah this let me go back to.

00:06:49 Vince Poscente

When I was 26 years old.

00:06:50 Vince Poscente

To answer that question, yeah I mean.

00:06:52 Vince Poscente

I'd never ski race before, right?

00:06:55 Vince Poscente

I had raced in luge for a couple of years, but quit.

00:07:01 Vince Poscente

We are often motivated by discomfort and you know, fear is temporary.

00:07:08 Vince Poscente

Regrets last for.

00:07:09 Vince Poscente

Ever so this sting of regret of not stepping in and not engaging in the sport of luge, was a regret that I had.

00:07:19 Vince Poscente

So I stepped in with speed skiing and then ended up being in the Olympics, and so I'd already learned kind of the lesson.

00:07:26 Vince Poscente

Wait, if you don't engage, you're going to have regrets and I.

00:07:30 Speaker 3

He hated that feeling.

00:07:31 Vince Poscente

Like regrets are just like yeah, you know so.

00:07:35 Vince Poscente

I never want regrets.

00:07:36 Vince Poscente

Again, and so that was.

00:07:40 Vince Poscente

Part of it like I.

00:07:41 Vince Poscente

Didn't win the gold medal.

00:07:42 Vince Poscente

The phone wasn't.

00:07:43 Vince Poscente

Ringing off the hook.

00:07:44 Vince Poscente

Hey, could you tell us?

00:07:45 Vince Poscente

How you lost in the Olympic Games?

00:07:48 Vince Poscente

Yeah yeah no.

00:07:48 Vince Poscente

I find it.

00:07:49 Vince Poscente

I framed it differently.

00:07:51 Vince Poscente

You know, I I I put it in a very innovative package.

00:07:53 Vince Poscente

Plus, I looked at the industry.

00:07:55 Vince Poscente

It's very, very competitive.

00:07:57 Vince Poscente

And one of the things that worked really well is a philosophy.

00:08:02 Vince Poscente

Because we all run around trying to do what the competition is not doing.

00:08:05 Vince Poscente

Saying things where the others aren't saying being unique and how we present.

00:08:10 Vince Poscente

But the mindset that I find in a competitive landscape that works really well.

00:08:16 Vince Poscente

Is to do what the competition is not willing to do right.

00:08:20 Vince Poscente

So and when I was ski racing I realized my competition wasn't local, although I was racing in local.

00:08:27 Vince Poscente

Places and it wasn't national.

00:08:29 Vince Poscente

Although in order to compete for the Canadian Olympic team, you had to be on the national team.

00:08:34 Vince Poscente

I never thought as my competition is national.

00:08:36 Vince Poscente

I never thought of them as international at the time I knew the Olympic qualifying standards were top 16 in the world.

00:08:43 Vince Poscente

So the idea here was to identify who your the top performers, the highest performers are, and do what they're not willing to do.

00:08:52 Vince Poscente

Yeah, so the top 16 races in the world I had to do what they're not willing to do.

00:08:57 Vince Poscente

They had a 20 year head start.

00:08:59 Vince Poscente

So how do you do what they're not doing?

00:09:00 Vince Poscente

You can't.

00:09:02 Vince Poscente

But you can do what the competition is not willing to do, and that was a distinct advantage as well so.

00:09:10 Vince Poscente

Was there any one person?

00:09:12 Vince Poscente

No, no, it was just it was maybe that voice inside the head would say it.

00:09:16 Vince Poscente

You know if this isn't possible you you didn't win the gold though you don't.

00:09:20 Vince Poscente

You know you.

00:09:20 Vince Poscente

Don't. You're 30 some yet.

00:09:22 Vince Poscente

Five years old. When I started speaking, you know 3034 I guess.

00:09:27 Vince Poscente

Yeah, speaking professionally, I mean and professionally I mean getting a chicken dinner.

00:09:33 Vince Poscente

You know maybe.

00:09:34 Vince Poscente

$500.00 here.

00:09:35 Vince Poscente

There you know it was.

00:09:37 Vince Poscente

Anytime, anywhere, any price was the philosophy at the beginning.

00:09:41 Vince Poscente

It's just anytime, anywhere, any price and you can start.

00:09:45 Vince Poscente

You get better, and there's no better example than stand up comedians, right?

00:09:49 Vince Poscente

They can write material all day long, but they don't get better unless they're in front of people, right?

00:09:55 Vince Poscente

So same with speaking.

00:09:55 Charles Clark

Yeah, I I say yeah I say the more you speak the the more you get paid.

00:10:01 Charles Clark

Even if you're doing it for.

00:10:03 Charles Clark

Because you're you're.

00:10:04 Charles Clark

You're polishing yourself not to agree to like, be perfect.

00:10:10 Charles Clark

I'm getting a little feedback, but that's.

00:10:11 Charles Clark

OK.

00:10:13 Charles Clark

Let me see here, you got headphones.

00:10:15 Charles Clark

Maybe we can try that.

00:10:18 Vince Poscente

Do I have headphones?

00:10:19

Yeah, I'm.

00:10:19 Charles Clark

Getting a little feedback.

00:10:20 Vince Poscente

I don't know, not really.

00:10:24 Vince Poscente

I wonder how I could beat headphones for you.

00:10:35 Charles Clark

Sorry about that.

00:10:36 Vince Poscente

You're getting feedback from me, my end.

00:10:38 Charles Clark

Uh, so typically that's how it happens.

00:10:42 Charles Clark

Like sometimes it works really well when the other person doesn't have their headphones.

00:10:57 Vince Poscente

Let's see if these work.

00:10:59 Vince Poscente

Chick chick, I haven't charged these for a while.

00:11:03 Vince Poscente

OK.

00:11:06 Charles Clark

Can you hear me here?

00:11:08 Charles Clark

Check check.

00:11:15 Vince Poscente

OK, check mic check check check.

00:11:18 Charles Clark

Yeah, it solved it.

00:11:20 Charles Clark

Can you hear me?

00:11:22 Charles Clark

Yeah, can you hear me?

00:11:22

OK.

00:11:23 Charles Clark

Yeah yeah, yeah.

00:11:25 Charles Clark

So where was I was OK, so I was saying it's OK.

00:11:28 Charles Clark

We're going to clean it up, see.

00:11:32 Charles Clark

Yeah, so I definitely agree with you.

00:11:34 Charles Clark

You know it's, I believe that the more you speak, the more you get paid, right?

00:11:38 Charles Clark

Meaning, like the more you do it, the better you get you.

00:11:41 Charles Clark

You get, you get polished.

00:11:42 Charles Clark

You get to work on different parts of your speaking that you might not be well in.

00:11:47 Charles Clark

So I I definitely agree with you with that.

00:11:51 Charles Clark

Let's let's kind of like talk about, you know COVID, what are you talking about, damn.

00:11:57 Vince Poscente

Right, so I believe like.

00:12:00 Charles Clark

So much happened right during last year, 365 days.

00:12:06 Charles Clark

Go and yeah, maybe a little bit even more, but I think the speaking industry was completely changed.

00:12:12 Charles Clark

The face of how we do business.

00:12:14 Charles Clark

What was going through your mind when all of that happened?

00:12:19 Vince Poscente

Well, I've been through a few downturns in the economy and my speaking business has been directly impacted and COVID annihilated. 95% of my calendar. I mean, that was how I made my living and then I didn't. And so but.

00:12:39 Vince Poscente

How I reacted this time was not to panic and I immediately started pushing out value.

00:12:46 Vince Poscente

I mean, I've written seven books, so I've got material.

00:12:50 Vince Poscente

I've got content.

00:12:53 Vince Poscente

I started pushing out these breakthrough videos.

00:12:56 Vince Poscente

In fact for the first.

00:12:58 Vince Poscente

I don't know few months.

00:12:59 Vince Poscente

I call them COVID campers.

00:13:01 Vince Poscente

I'd say hey COVID campers and there were always less than two minutes.

00:13:05 Vince Poscente

We talked about what was a thing.

00:13:07 Vince Poscente

They could work on.

00:13:08 Vince Poscente

You know cognitive bias, repetition bias, blind spot bias.

00:13:14 Vince Poscente

Things that would be informative have impact and influence, and I thought that pandemic would probably last about three weeks, so I had decided to put out a video every day for those three weeks and then five weeks and then eight weeks. And then that's the you know, 250 videos later.

00:13:35 Vince Poscente

I eventually changed it from COVID campers because after the lock in if you will in the US was less of a thing the.

00:13:44 Vince Poscente

I call them breakthrough videos and so pushing out value is the answer.

00:13:48 Vince Poscente

To your question, I.

00:13:49 Vince Poscente

Immediately started giving value anytime, anywhere, any price.

00:13:54 Vince Poscente

Just give value.

00:13:56 Vince Poscente

If you're good at something.

00:13:57 Vince Poscente

If you have a message then give value and somebody steps up somebody.

00:14:03 Vince Poscente

Says hey could.

00:14:04 Vince Poscente

You do this over here.

00:14:05 Vince Poscente

Could you help us with?

00:14:06 Vince Poscente

Our company and that.

00:14:07 Vince Poscente

Just is how that's how it works.

00:14:10 Charles Clark

I I'm I'm kind of questioned with this the idea.

00:14:13 Charles Clark

Do you think?

00:14:15 Charles Clark

That how we handle COVID should have been how we handled our business all along.

00:14:22 Vince Poscente

Yeah, yeah, we we.

00:14:26 Vince Poscente

We don't change until we're uncomfortable, right?

00:14:30 Vince Poscente

And so we definitely had.

00:14:34 Vince Poscente

Had to change, yeah, and you know there's one thing.

00:14:38 Vince Poscente

That I've been putting off and putting off.

00:14:40 Vince Poscente

And putting off and I created this program this learning distance distance learning program called find your buzz right.

00:14:48 Vince Poscente

That book you see over my shoulder it wait, this shoulder here is to be able to.

00:14:52 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:14:53 Vince Poscente

Why am I?

00:14:54 Vince Poscente

I'm able to point in the right direction, but that's what.

00:14:57 Vince Poscente

Called the Ant and the elephant.

00:15:00 Vince Poscente

And the the Ant.

00:15:01 Vince Poscente

The elephants.

00:15:02 Vince Poscente

LeBron James has quoted it in Sports Illustrated.

00:15:05 Vince Poscente

It's been used by FedEx.

00:15:08 Vince Poscente

It's a leadership tool and I deconstructed the I had the time.

00:15:13 Vince Poscente

You know I deconstructed the book, turned it into a learning platform and did these virtual learn lunch and learns and the people have been taking this.

00:15:22 Vince Poscente

Find your buzz program as their heads are blowing up because they're just kind of.

00:15:26 Vince Poscente

This is awesome like it's.

00:15:28 Vince Poscente

Instead of an educational.

00:15:29 Vince Poscente

Transaction which this could be, you know, our interview and your tribe might be going OK.

00:15:35 Vince Poscente

I get it or whatever.

00:15:36 Vince Poscente

But when something is transformational, then somebody is fundamentally shifted and then you no longer get the credit, by the way, because they forget why they why they transformed or how it's just now who they are or what they've.

00:15:53 Vince Poscente

And that's why we're on this planet.

00:15:55 Vince Poscente

If we're going to.

00:15:56 Vince Poscente

Have impact and influence.

00:15:58 Vince Poscente

Seek that transformational experience for your audience member and then then you're in that sweet spot.

00:16:05 Vince Poscente

So that's that.

00:16:06 Vince Poscente

Answer your question that that was one thing that I stepped into.

00:16:10 Vince Poscente

Giving virtual keynotes.

00:16:12 Vince Poscente

I'm good at it and I don't want to do them forever.

00:16:17 Charles Clark

I'll tell you on that.

00:16:19 Vince Poscente

Boy Oh my God, it's it's.

00:16:21 Vince Poscente

I don't, you know, I could go on about how much I don't like.

00:16:24 Vince Poscente

It but.

00:16:25 Charles Clark

Yeah, it's it's.

00:16:26 Charles Clark

It's just like a season of it, right?

00:16:28 Charles Clark

It's like, yo, I I definitely.

00:16:30 Charles Clark

I prefer to be on the stage and in in front of people impacting their lives, like feeling that energy in the room.

00:16:36 Charles Clark

There's nothing like that, you know, but I guess this will do for now.

00:16:42 Charles Clark

Yeah yeah, yeah.

00:16:43 Vince Poscente

It sharpens your sharpens your skills, though, doesn't it?

00:16:46 Charles Clark

Definitely like the ability to.

00:16:50 Charles Clark

To be authentic when when there's no feedback.

00:16:54 Vince Poscente

Right, right, yeah?

00:16:54 Charles Clark

You know?

00:16:56 Charles Clark

That that has been the the challenge like and you know for me especially starting out during COVID like yo.

00:17:02 Charles Clark

How do I?

00:17:03 Charles Clark

Like feel the energy and and still give my best and and now it taught me to be the end.

00:17:08 Vince Poscente

Right?

00:17:13 Charles Clark

Before someone gives it to me, right?

00:17:15 Charles Clark

Yeah, and so like that's that's just been the the way I process it.

00:17:19 Charles Clark

But I definitely can't wait it, it's it's gonna be like a Super Bowl.

00:17:23 Charles Clark

You know when?

00:17:24 Charles Clark

When I when I get back into the the the.

00:17:26 Charles Clark

Where you know the auditorium conference is my I think my.

00:17:32 Charles Clark

The biggest one I have coming up is going to be in October, and that's going to be, I think, about 10:10 thousand people or so.

00:17:39 Charles Clark

And I'm like yo I can't wait for this moment right here, so what's the one speaker that you you respect and?

00:17:50 Charles Clark

One question that you would ask him or her.

00:17:56 Vince Poscente

You know I can't remember his name, but he wrote a book called Carpe Diem.

00:18:01 Vince Poscente

He was a pastor out of Philadelphia.

00:18:05 Vince Poscente

Oh, what's his name?

00:18:06 Vince Poscente

You might want to look it up, but he said something on stage that I'd like to explore more and he said we all want our kids to be what and everybody goes happy and he says, yeah, you could take a pill and be happy.

00:18:24 Vince Poscente

It's more than being happy.

00:18:26 Vince Poscente

It's about being fulfilled.

00:18:28 Vince Poscente

And Anthony, his name is Anthony something shoot.

00:18:33 Vince Poscente

Anyway, I'm not picking anybody famous.

00:18:36 Vince Poscente

Yeah, I've been around some of the most prominent speakers and have had some negative experiences.

00:18:44 Speaker 3

Right?

00:18:44 Vince Poscente

It was really, truly.

00:18:46 Vince Poscente

I won't say his or her name.

00:18:49 Vince Poscente

But, uh, I will say this that I was on a speaking tour with this person and they couldn't be more ego driven and.

00:18:59 Vince Poscente

And and rude, I mean, yeah.

00:19:01 Vince Poscente

I was with an icon.

00:19:03 Vince Poscente

I was, you know, hoping that at some point we could chat.

00:19:08 Vince Poscente

And this this person was treating me like a pimple on his ***.

00:19:12 Vince Poscente

I mean it.

00:19:13 Speaker 3

Was like got.

00:19:14 Vince Poscente

Yeah, I mean that was like that's graphic isn't.

00:19:17 Vince Poscente

It, but anyway, yeah, I know I.

00:19:20 Charles Clark

It was a.

00:19:21 Charles Clark

Was ready to pop like type of?

00:19:24 Vince Poscente

Let's go into detail no.

00:19:28 Vince Poscente

Now you know and and that those kind of experiences are gifts, aren't they?

00:19:32 Vince Poscente

You know you go ohh note to self.

00:19:34 Vince Poscente

I never want to do that.

00:19:36 Vince Poscente

I never want to be that way so we can learn from anybody when even when they're not teaching mode, right, right?

00:19:42 Charles Clark

Right, right?

00:19:43 Charles Clark

I think that was that's a big thing for my life.

00:19:46 Charles Clark

I I learned.

00:19:48 Charles Clark

From the mistakes of other people.

00:19:51 Charles Clark

And that was the thing that allowed me to see what I wanted to be in life.

00:19:57 Charles Clark

You know those things that they did wrong?

00:20:00 Charles Clark

I wanted to do the.

00:20:01 Charles Clark

Opposite of that.

00:20:03 Charles Clark

And so, yeah, I can definitely relate to that.

00:20:06 Charles Clark

I think we can turn.

00:20:07 Charles Clark

You know we can turn any tragedy to something of of of a magnificent design.

00:20:14 Charles Clark

It's all about perspective.

00:20:15 Charles Clark

You know, as we know, with resilience and and being able to be strong, right?

00:20:20 Charles Clark

It's it's learning to turn that situation into something that can.

00:20:25 Charles Clark

Completely change your life so I just.

00:20:29 Vince Poscente

Let me add one thing on the topic.

00:20:31 Vince Poscente

Of resilience because.

00:20:32 Vince Poscente

I've been thinking about that.

00:20:33 Vince Poscente

Actually, it's almost a trigger word in a way for me, because resilience without clarity is.

00:20:41 Vince Poscente

Stubborn ignorance yeah.

00:20:43 Vince Poscente

Meaning you can just you can be resilient, persistent and just drive and and and go forward.

00:20:51 Vince Poscente

But clarity is such an essential part of why you're resilient, and then it's beyond the why.

00:21:00 Vince Poscente

It's this connection.

00:21:02 Vince Poscente

This emotional buzz that you get from this kind of.

00:21:06 Vince Poscente

Of Path of resilience.

00:21:09 Vince Poscente

So I just wanted to add that because whether it's negative or positive like you.

00:21:15 Vince Poscente

Dead, it still adds to the clarity and then this resilience is just bulletproof, right?

00:21:22 Vince Poscente

You you you.

00:21:22 Vince Poscente

Just if you're so clear on what it is that you are meant to be on this planet, right?

00:21:29 Vince Poscente

If you're so, and if you don't have that of course, stay on the line because there's a ton of us.

00:21:34 Vince Poscente

That still don't know what.

00:21:35 Speaker 3

Exactly what to do but.

00:21:38 Vince Poscente

You know this.

00:21:38 Vince Poscente

This clarity is pulling things into focus.

00:21:42 Vince Poscente

Before we started this record.

00:21:44 Vince Poscente

Like we were working on clarity because it just wasn't quite there on the screen and so we we tweaked it, didn't we?

00:21:51 Vince Poscente

You tweak it, tweak it, and then we're like, OK, we got clarity now.

00:21:54 Vince Poscente

Same in life, same.

00:21:57 Charles Clark

So true, so true.

00:21:58 Charles Clark

I think just to add one more.

00:22:00 Charles Clark

Thing to it.

00:22:01 Charles Clark

Is yeah I.

00:22:02 Charles Clark

I think that the thing that I've been learning about being resilient or perseverance is that.

00:22:11 Charles Clark

Perseverance isn't about pushing like just automatically.

00:22:15 Charles Clark

I'm just gonna push through this thing.

00:22:17 Charles Clark

But it's about being meticulous, right?

00:22:19 Charles Clark

It's about being able to reflect and connect.

00:22:24 Charles Clark

And let me just put this in perspective for you guys, that's listening.

00:22:28 Charles Clark

You know that you're called to speak.

00:22:30 Charles Clark

You know that there's something that you that you want to.

00:22:32 Charles Clark

Do and if you've been getting it wrong, maybe you've been sending out those emails wrong, or you trying to figure out the the right way to do things the way the best way that you can do that is reflect and connect.

00:22:44 Charles Clark

Figure out what's not working right, and if you don't know all the answers the the best thing that I would say is the next step is to be amongst a tribe, right when when you know.

00:22:56 Charles Clark

When you understand what it takes.

00:22:59 Charles Clark

Then I think when you get around a tribe you understand what it takes, right?

00:23:02 Charles Clark

It's just like when you're in Olympics, right?

00:23:04 Charles Clark

Like I I just, I just can't be great by myself.

00:23:07 Charles Clark

It takes a tribe of people to get there so you know.

00:23:11 Charles Clark

And all of this perseverance is, and all is about doing it by yourself and just trying to be strong on on your own.

00:23:18 Charles Clark

But sometimes it's about reflecting and connecting.

00:23:20 Charles Clark

And being a part of a community, that's going to help you get there.

00:23:24 Vince Poscente

Yeah, and Charles I'll, I'll add one other word to that.

00:23:28 Vince Poscente

And that's authenticity.

00:23:30 Vince Poscente

You brought that up earlier.

00:23:33 Vince Poscente

My wife used to own International Speakers Bureau right?

00:23:37 Vince Poscente

They were top five speaker bureaus in the US if not.

00:23:41 Vince Poscente

The world and.

00:23:43 Vince Poscente

And somebody asked her what's your job and she said my job is to find out who's authentic.

00:23:51 Vince Poscente

And that just.

00:23:52 Vince Poscente

Came out of her mouth right and.

00:23:54 Vince Poscente

I went that's it.

00:23:55 Vince Poscente

Because you know, they call it a poop detector where your your poop detector goes off when somebody's not being authentic. And I'm saying being authentic not doing authentic because there's a.

00:24:07 Vince Poscente

Ton of people doing.

00:24:10 Vince Poscente

Listening and you just kind of go.

00:24:12 Vince Poscente

Yeah, that detector.

00:24:13 Vince Poscente

Just goes deep deep.

00:24:14 Vince Poscente

Deep, you know.

00:24:16 Vince Poscente

So so for reflecting connect and authenticity might be that magical foundation for being able to truly pursue that resilience that we were talking about and and stand the course.

00:24:30 Vince Poscente

You've got this.

00:24:31 Vince Poscente

Message inside you'll, it'll become clear.

00:24:34 Charles Clark

Yeah, that's real.

00:24:36 Charles Clark

I want people who are authentic.

00:24:38 Charles Clark

I'm trying to separate the people who are then.

00:24:39 Charles Clark

I think that's what we all.

00:24:40 Charles Clark

Right connection, that's the.

00:24:43 Charles Clark

That's the thing that builds the connection to drive that conversation and to create transformation like all those.

00:24:50 Vince Poscente

Yeah, there's a.

00:24:52 Vince Poscente

There's a fella he is a longtime friend of mine.

00:24:55 Vince Poscente

His name is.

00:24:56 Vince Poscente

Egan and Egan wanted to.

00:24:58 Vince Poscente

Be paid to speak more and wanted to.

00:25:00 Vince Poscente

Get more busy.

00:25:01 Vince Poscente

This and he came to me and says, how do?

00:25:03 Vince Poscente

I be funny and I and I went Eagan.

00:25:07 Vince Poscente

You're an accountant.

00:25:08 Vince Poscente

You're not funny like.

00:25:11 Vince Poscente

But you are passionate and when he he wanted to do authenticity with humor, right?

00:25:17 Vince Poscente

And but when he talked about compound interest like his eyes.

00:25:22 Vince Poscente

Roll in the back of his.

00:25:23 Vince Poscente

Head he would start spitting and.

00:25:26 Speaker 3

To go compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world, and you have any idea how fast?

00:25:34 Vince Poscente

And they said it's that passion.

00:25:37 Charles Clark

Yeah, that.

00:25:37 Vince Poscente

Is his authenticity not trying to do anything specific so his authenticity needed to come forward rather which was his passion for what he was passionate.

00:25:48 Vince Poscente

About you know.

00:25:48 Vince Poscente

So that's that's a.

00:25:50 Vince Poscente

That's a pretty simple formula, yeah?

00:25:54 Charles Clark

Be you, be you at the end of the day, one more question.

00:25:57 Charles Clark

I wanted to ask you before we end this conversation is, you know, as speakers we're giving this platform to impact people's lives.

00:26:04 Charles Clark

How are you modeling your words in private?

00:26:08 Vince Poscente

Ohh yeah, that's called integrity and.

00:26:11 Charles Clark

Yeah yeah, yeah.

00:26:13 Vince Poscente

I have a I.

00:26:14 Vince Poscente

Have a saying, winning is the journey is a journey of integrity.

00:26:19 Vince Poscente

If you break that that quote down.

00:26:23 Vince Poscente

You're not winning if you're not an integrity and journey means it's a process like you're constantly in this process of doing, being, you know, living, executing, delivering, serving, and so.

00:26:41 Vince Poscente

You know that's easy for me, I mean.

00:26:44 Vince Poscente

My message is about having impact and influence while having as much fun as humanly possible, right?

00:26:53 Vince Poscente

And I and I summarize that with a very simple question.

00:26:56 Vince Poscente

I and I call it living in my question, which is how will I serve with love, right?

00:27:03 Vince Poscente

Yeah, it's not just others, it's myself.

00:27:05 Vince Poscente

I mean can.

00:27:06 Vince Poscente

How will I serve with love?

00:27:08 Vince Poscente

Well, is there ever an answer to that?

00:27:10 Vince Poscente

No, but there's always the process of that, you know.

00:27:13 Vince Poscente

So when you reached out and said.

00:27:16 Vince Poscente

Would you help our tribe and would you help us understand, paid to speak and?

00:27:20 Vince Poscente

All that you know.

00:27:22 Vince Poscente

Does that fit with?

00:27:23 Vince Poscente

How will I serve with love or is that misaligned with that and it was aligned so?

00:27:27 Vince Poscente

I said yes, I mean.

00:27:29 Vince Poscente

We didn't meet until just earlier.

00:27:33 Vince Poscente

And so that's fine I.

00:27:35 Vince Poscente

Mean am I in integrity?

00:27:37 Vince Poscente

With that mission and the the answer is yes so.

00:27:42 Vince Poscente

That's just easy.

00:27:43 Vince Poscente

And when I'm off stage.

00:27:45 Vince Poscente

Yeah, we hear stories about people that.

00:27:47 Vince Poscente

Are even kind of referred to one.

00:27:49 Vince Poscente

But you know, there's there's these moments where we can kind of find ourselves a little out of out of alignment.

00:27:50

Yeah, yeah.

00:27:56 Vince Poscente

And then I've made mistakes.

00:27:58 Vince Poscente

One guy came up to me prior to his.

00:28:02 Vince Poscente

It was minutes before and he's he just wanted to make conversation.

00:28:05 Vince Poscente

He was just trying to be nice and he said So what are you going to speak on?

00:28:08 Vince Poscente

And I went wow if you could.

00:28:10 Vince Poscente

Wait like 10 minutes.

00:28:11 Vince Poscente

You're going to hear it right?

00:28:13 Vince Poscente

And and he was so offended.

00:28:16

Right and he just.

00:28:17 Vince Poscente

Went well, never mind and he just walked away and I went.

00:28:22 Vince Poscente

I was such an ******* right?

00:28:24 Vince Poscente

I didn't mean to.

00:28:26 Vince Poscente

Canadian human yeah well.

00:28:29 Vince Poscente

Yeah, so I learned my lesson.

00:28:34 Charles Clark

That's all good I.

00:28:35 Charles Clark

Think we all we all make mistakes right?

00:28:37 Charles Clark

Like that's.

00:28:39 Charles Clark

The human part of us.

00:28:41 Vince Poscente

Yeah, yeah.

00:28:42

Like we we.

00:28:43 Charles Clark

Are all flawed and and even in our relationships we're going to mess.

00:28:46 Charles Clark

Up and.

00:28:49 Charles Clark

That that's The thing is, as long as we're.

00:28:54 Charles Clark

As long as we're pushing to get better, as long as you become a just an ounce more of who you're created to be or pushing to be to have that clarity.

00:28:56 Vince Poscente

All right?

00:29:02 Charles Clark

As you said to to be that person then.

00:29:07 Charles Clark

Forget the rest.

00:29:08 Charles Clark

Love, love that journey and and forgive yourself.

00:29:12 Charles Clark

Give yourself Grace and I think that's the thing that I've been trying to walk in is.

00:29:18 Charles Clark

I'm not perfect and even though I'm on this platform, even though I get paid to speak, it's.

00:29:23 Charles Clark

Give yourself grace.

00:29:25 Charles Clark

Understand you're not perfect and just continue to try to be the best version of yourself.

00:29:31 Charles Clark

If that doesn't help anybody like you guys understanding like you don't have.

00:29:35 Charles Clark

To be perfect, to speak.

00:29:36 Charles Clark

There it is right there you don't.

00:29:38 Vince Poscente

Yeah, yeah no, the.

00:29:40 Vince Poscente

More authentic you are, the more you're going to be vulnerable, the more you're going to mess up.

00:29:43 Vince Poscente

Every once in a while.

00:29:45

And if.

00:29:45 Vince Poscente

You messed up.

00:29:46 Vince Poscente

You kind of go.

00:29:46 Vince Poscente

Oh wait, wait.

00:29:48 Vince Poscente

I said that completely wrong and people go, you know?

00:29:52 Vince Poscente

And then you said what I meant to say, and then they won't.

00:29:55 Vince Poscente

Let up because they kind of like they.

00:29:57 Vince Poscente

Love seeing you squirm.

00:29:57 Charles Clark

Connect to that.

00:29:58 Vince Poscente

But yeah, they connect with authenticity.

00:30:01 Vince Poscente

Of course they do.

00:30:02 Charles Clark

So true means before we go.

00:30:03 Charles Clark

What can I try find you?
