Entire C-Suite community.

00:01:24 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I live.

00:01:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I split my time, you know, from a personal time between New York and South Dakota.

00:01:29 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm on my ranch right now, so you're reaching me right out there.

00:01:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and of course I've been a Hall of Fame speaker I'm I'm in five business hall of Fame's but the Hall of Fame speaker and.

00:01:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Deliver about typically before COVID I was doing about 160 keynotes.

00:01:45 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Year paid keynotes and now now I'm doing uh well over 3 or 300 this year with everything on online. So I'm I'm rising and thriving brother.

00:01:54 Charles Clark

Come on, man, let's get it.

00:01:55 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Oh, that's.

00:01:56 Charles Clark

You know, how does all that make you looking back at your life and all you accomplished?

00:02:01 Charles Clark

How does that make you feel?

00:02:03 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, good hell.

00:02:04 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, if you weren't doing it for for for for fun and for building wealth and for doing new things, why would you do it?

00:02:08

Right.

00:02:10 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I wouldn't waste my time. I want to do things I like to do, so that makes me feel good to have impact on other people's lives.

00:02:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So people want to listen to you, and heck, they want to pay you for it.

00:02:20 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Even better.

00:02:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I love that.

00:02:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Man, 'cause that, I mean, you know, getting paid, that's how we keep score.

00:02:25 Charles Clark

Right, right, right.

00:02:28 Charles Clark

I I love the attitude, the the the mindset that you have.

00:02:32 Charles Clark

Of how did you arrive to that place of?

00:02:35 Charles Clark

Of just becoming, I guess, resilient, ambitious and and becoming successful?

00:02:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, you get to do.

00:02:41 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You get to choose in life, you want to be a winner.

00:02:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You want to be a loser.

00:02:43 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, let me tell you what led winning is a lot better than losing.

00:02:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I you know, we're all going to lose.

00:02:48 Jeffrey Hayzlett

We're all going to fail.

00:02:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Everybody talks about right now in business, you know, especially with software, technology, old fail fast, you know, ******** let's win fast, you know, and so you know, many years ago.

00:03:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, somebody asked me if I was.

00:03:01 Jeffrey Hayzlett

With a group of celebrities.

00:03:03 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Could I help a lot of people kind of figure out how they do their brand, the way they do their brand, how to position themselves as a brand?

00:03:09 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I've been doing that for Major corporation.

00:03:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And all kinds of companies didn't say it, but I also used, you know, the brand of me to be able to go out and start promoting and building up what now is now known as the C-Suite network.

00:03:21 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and so a lot of celebrities.

00:03:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I got together with a big old agency network out in Los Angeles and they brought in some high level celebrities.

00:03:31 Jeffrey Hayzlett

To have me talk to him about building the branding themselves and how to.

00:03:34 Jeffrey Hayzlett

How to be able to spin that off into other products, whether it be tequila or or Scotch as I would I would particularly love or or other things that might enhance their brand or brand extensions?

00:03:45 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And someone once said to me, said Jeff.

00:03:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

How do you deal with those little voices in the back of your head to tell you you're not worthy?

00:03:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said, man, well, I said, what voices?

00:03:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And they said, you know, those little voices.

00:03:55 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I said, yeah, I know which ones you're talking about.

00:03:57 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I stopped.

00:03:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I stopped listening to those voices a long time ago.

00:04:01 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And that's really what you have to do.

00:04:02 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You have to look in that mirror and say, hey, I'm worthy, I can do it, I can make it happen.

00:04:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

This is what I have to offer and then go off for it.

00:04:09 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know you're gonna make, you're going to stumble, you're going to make some, make some mistakes.

00:04:12 Jeffrey Hayzlett

But you know, everybody does get over it.

00:04:15 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, if you're going to be a maestro, you gotta learn to play a lot of bad notes.

00:04:19 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah, I I think that's the difference between faith and faith and fear.

00:04:24 Charles Clark

It's it's all a choice that we can choose to have.

00:04:27 Charles Clark

And by by definition, like fear is almost the same thing as faith is just what you choose to land on the spectrum is it is.

00:04:36 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're gonna have both.

00:04:37 Charles Clark

It society, is it ballute right?

00:04:37 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're gonna.

00:04:38 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Have both, yeah.

00:04:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, you're gonna have both, you know, fear.

00:04:41 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I always tell people, what's the five biggest mistakes most businesses make, you know, in order to to to adapt.

00:04:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Change or die and most of them are afraid, my as all people are.

00:04:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, and you just gotta overcome those first couple of seconds when you you know what it's like speaking.

00:04:57 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, I'm a Hall of Fame speaker. I get up there and give, you know, hundreds of speeches. I used to have my own primetime television show on Bloomberg. I now have a TV show on C-Suite.

00:05:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

TV and, you know, the get scared before you go out and talk to that group of 4000 people or 8000 people or in some cases I've been on, you know, I was a judge on Celebrity Apprentice and 14 million people watching you on television.

00:05:20 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And do you ever get scared?

00:05:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, hell yeah, but you know that it's that second you take on the step and that's what you do.

00:05:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's what.

00:05:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're there to do, so you'll get over it.

00:05:28 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah, I I think it it's the same way, you know, when running track.

00:05:32 Charles Clark

I I had these bad nerves, bro.

00:05:33 Charles Clark

So it was like I would throw up in the trash can, I would have to use.

00:05:37 Charles Clark

The bathroom a whole bunch of times if.

00:05:38 Charles Clark

The race.

00:05:39 Charles Clark

But the moment that gun went off?

00:05:41 Charles Clark

It all went away because I I.

00:05:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Wait, you you look like a runner.

00:05:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I I was a shot putter.

00:05:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

See, I was like one of those guys, man.

00:05:47

OK.

00:05:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

We were, like, laying down, watching you guys run.

00:05:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's the kind of guy I am, you know?

00:05:53

Yeah, yeah.

00:05:55 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know you.

00:05:55 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Talk about that I, I said to my my son, who's a chief marketing officer of our company and and I he did a presentation the other day and I went and I heard all these people talk about that.

00:06:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I went back and watched the.

00:06:08 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Recording. And I had to say to him, wow, you, it's phenomenal how far you've come because I remember roughly about 6-7 years ago, he had to do a presentation at what was then the, you know, like the $1,000,000 speakers group or the equivalent of the Hall of Fame Speakers Group and all these certified speakers. And I remember walking up to him, right.

00:06:29 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Before, he was going to go say something to a group about no more than about 150 professional speakers.

00:06:34 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I walked up to him to say something, and I he said, dad, don't, don't talk to me.

00:06:38 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm gonna throw up.

00:06:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm gonna throw up and and and and.

00:06:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And then watch him do what he did to do.

00:06:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And he did a great job, you know, but he was so nervous he thought he was gonna throw up.

00:06:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And then he told me, says, do I?

00:06:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said, you know, I remember last year when.

00:06:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You did this presentation for us.

00:06:52 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He jumped up on a table and he goes, yeah.

00:06:55 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He goes, yeah, but there was still a garbage can off to the side of the stage 'cause.

00:07:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He was so afraid that he was going to have that, you know, that, that moment, you know, he and he's introvert.

00:07:04 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He's a little bit more introverted than and obviously than I am, but, but but yeah, we all have that brother.

00:07:07 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:07:10 Jeffrey Hayzlett

We all.

00:07:10 Charles Clark

That, yeah.

00:07:11 Charles Clark

And I think like for me I I begin to recognize that that fear, but well, that anxiety and excitement it it both feel the same.

00:07:19 Charles Clark

It's just the way you choose to look at it, right?

00:07:21 Charles Clark

Like if I if I look at that stage time, right?

00:07:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, exactly.

00:07:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It's a choice, yeah.

00:07:24 Charles Clark

As as it's fear for me, then it's gonna take control.

00:07:28 Charles Clark

But if I look at it as exciting, yeah, I'm I'm gonna enjoy this.

00:07:30 Charles Clark

Roller coaster time going on so I want to write.

00:07:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It's a choice.

00:07:34 Charles Clark

It's a choice I would you talk about.

00:07:36 Charles Clark

That path that you went on, how did you get into speaking?

00:07:40 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, I started speaking.

00:07:41 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Uh, you know, I'm 60 years old today or not today, but 60 right this minute.

00:07:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and I started professional speaking when I was in my early 20s.

00:07:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I, you know, I used to.

00:07:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I grew up listening to some of the greatest speakers in the world who eventually become friends.

00:07:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

But, you know, there.

00:07:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Was augment Dino.

00:08:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And, oh, you know, of course I listened to the great Napoleon Hill, you know, Norman Vincent Peale.

00:08:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Those they weren't alive when I was starting my speaking career.

00:08:10 Jeffrey Hayzlett

But many of those folks were like Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar and those, and I had a chance to see them when I was in my teens.

00:08:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So, you know, I was still in Amway.

00:08:20 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Door to door, back when I was 1617 and I'd go to these conventions and hear with Skip Ross, you know, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, some of the greatest speakers of all times. And I said, man, I like what they do and how they do.

00:08:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Do it. And so when I got it to me, my early 20s, I started giving speeches and, you know, became a member of the National Speakers Association at the age of 2526. Been a member every since.

00:08:45 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so I started speaking back then and I was doing a program called how to rip the head.

00:08:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Off your competition, you know.

00:08:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, some subtle marketing.

00:08:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

In sales basically, you know and and there but yeah, here I was, you know, attending these conferences with these professionals.

00:09:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Speakers and next to me was Zig Ziglar.

00:09:03 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Next to me was Brian Tracy and next to me was Bill Brooks and they became my good friend Jeannie Robertson and and so many others.

00:09:10 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Patricia Fripp I can keep going and that are somebody.

00:09:13 Jeffrey Hayzlett

There are Hall of Fame speakers today, and of course I followed in their footsteps and I'm just.

00:09:18 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm just lucky to be blessed by that.

00:09:20 Charles Clark

Yeah, I I believe by by association we we rise or we fall, we sink or so well.

00:09:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Second, you're exactly right, my friend Charles.

00:09:29 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's exactly right.

00:09:30 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's how you should position yourself.

00:09:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You want to hang around.

00:09:33 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, Denzel Washington has this great speech.

00:09:36 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He, you know, he says you want to hang around winners, you're gonna be a winner.

00:09:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're gonna hang around losers.

00:09:40 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're going to be a loser.

00:09:41 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I and I think there's a lot, lot too, that you gotta hang around.

00:09:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You hang around millionaires, you become a millionaire.

00:09:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and it's true with that process of association.

00:09:50 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So I hung around with some of the greatest speakers in the world, and then I studied them.

00:09:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I I was at a conference this week in Dallas where I was speaking and someone came up to me and said that story you told I they said, where was your inspiration?

00:10:02 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said Jerry Clower and he knew exactly who I was talking about.

00:10:06 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You won't know who that is, but he was a a comedian in the 70s and 80s and he used to tell he was from Route 4, Liberty Ms and.

00:10:14 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He would tell these things, and I used to buy his records, and I'd watch him on the Grand Ole Opry, and I would learn from speakers like that.

00:10:21 Jeffrey Hayzlett

He would learn.

00:10:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Their their moves, they're not to copy them by any means, shape or form, because if you do that, you copy me.

00:10:29 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm coming after you, OK?

00:10:31 Jeffrey Hayzlett

We you know they because.

00:10:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

UUB.

00:10:33 Jeffrey Hayzlett

UUBU I'll be me.

00:10:34 Charles Clark

Right, right, right.

00:10:35 Jeffrey Hayzlett

But that doesn't mean we don't get inspirations from people.

00:10:38 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, even like Lewis Black.

00:10:40 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I like to watch Lewis Black 'cause he's.

00:10:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Outrageous, right? Yeah.

00:10:44 Charles Clark

So you have this saying that says adapt, change, or die.

00:10:49 Charles Clark

How they apply in into kovit you know?

00:10:53 Charles Clark

What the business?

00:10:54 Charles Clark

And industry.

00:10:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, if you I was with a group of $1,000,000 speakers yesterday. There's a there's a group called the $1,000,000 speaker group and I'm part of it, been part of it for years and we get together and and I reminded them a year.

00:11:05 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Ago last.

00:11:06 Jeffrey Hayzlett

March, when everybody was talking about, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, it's dead, it's dead, it's dead.

00:11:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And they said I can't wait to get back.

00:11:13 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Up on stage again and I said I can't wait to never walk on another stage.

00:11:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Rest of my life.

00:11:19 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and they said, well, well, why would you say that?

00:11:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said because we're delivering speeches now differently.

00:11:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Before it was it was just a stage, but now I can do three or four now I've done that before.

00:11:32 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Why as many as 5 keynotes in a day and gotten paid for all those keynotes, but man that I was using a.

00:11:39 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Helicopter or plane, you know, trained.

00:11:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Whatever I had to do to get around.

00:11:43 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I'm not joking.

00:11:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

We literally picked me up on a plane, took me somewhere, grabbed me by a helicopter, flew me, took again, took advantage of the time times.

00:11:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Bones and you know.

00:11:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That that's a.

00:11:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Tough thing, but man, if I can do 5 speeches in a day from my house, in my underwear, boom.

00:11:59 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, you know this is a lot different, right?

00:12:02 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so, and that's what I meant by that, is that we have to learn to adapt and change or will die because had you followed just the.

00:12:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

The same model pre COVID predigital.

00:12:14 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Because during COVID, you know, days became weeks, weeks became months, months became years.

00:12:19 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and if you didn't move, if you didn't drive and thrive or rise and thrive as you well know, you're dead.

00:12:26 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

00:12:26 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're dead.

00:12:28 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so that's that's what I mean.

00:12:29 Jeffrey Hayzlett

By that.

00:12:30 Charles Clark

I I love that.

00:12:31 Charles Clark

That statement right there, it's a constant reminder of how to live.

00:12:35 Speaker 1

Like you. Yeah, sure. Yeah.

00:12:38 Charles Clark

Adapt, change or or died.

00:12:40 Charles Clark

I mean, that's the only choice that you have in life, right?

00:12:43 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, well, you mentioned gonna die, so I'd like to put it off as long as I can.

00:12:47 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

00:12:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and you and your career is gonna take that.

00:12:50 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're speaking.

00:12:50 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It's gonna take that your topics gonna die.

00:12:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're you know that your styles gonna die, you have your clothes gonna dye, your hair is gonna die.

00:12:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, in terms of you gotta look to change up that stuff.

00:13:02 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Every so often so that you can still be interesting or they'll never hire you back again.

00:13:07 Charles Clark

Very long time.

00:13:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, I love that I can go back to a group again and again and.

00:13:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Again, I'm basically telling the same damn speech for the last 12 years.

00:13:16 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, OK.

00:13:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

All I do is change the slides and change the stories, but the concept is the exact same concept, yeah.

00:13:22 Charles Clark

The principle.

00:13:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, well, because I don't.

00:13:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm lazy.

00:13:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I don't want to have to change at all.

00:13:30 Charles Clark

Right, I mean.

00:13:30

Yeah, but you know what I mean.

00:13:31 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:13:32 Charles Clark

No, I I I feel you.

00:13:33 Charles Clark

That you you do what works and you stay in your lane, you know, that's that's one of the things I always believe in.

00:13:37 Charles Clark

Like me, I'm a track guy. I run the 200. You put me outside of the 200. It's.

00:13:41 Charles Clark

Gonna look a hot mess, man.

00:13:43 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I I I have never even walked two 100 yards, much less 200 meters. There is no way. That's why, man.

00:13:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Again, I'm going to go back to shot put.

00:13:50 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It was a lot easier.

00:13:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Just threw a big lead ball.

00:13:52 Charles Clark

That was easy.

00:13:53 Charles Clark

That that way you gotta stick to your one thing, you know you.

00:13:55 Charles Clark

We stick to our one thing and if that works.

00:13:58 Charles Clark

Use it, but adapt in that behavior of you delivering.

00:14:03 Charles Clark

So I love that.

00:14:03 Charles Clark

Tell me, tell me about.

00:14:04 Charles Clark

About a moment of you speaking on the stage, your biggest memorable moment on the stage.

00:14:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Oh, man, I I've got so many of those, you know where you it's the standing ovations, you know?

00:14:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It's the the accolades.

00:14:19 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Probably. Probably one of the best ones was years ago. I mean, there's a lot, I mean, I gotta tell you, there's a lot of where you have those moments where, you know, you've you've moved the crowd and you, you got 8000.

00:14:31 Jeffrey Hayzlett

People in the room and and you could feel them move with you down and back up again and you and you take them on this journey and and I love those time.

00:14:40 Jeffrey Hayzlett

There was one time in which I I did that for a group and it's detailed in my book.

00:14:45 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Think big, act bigger because they they every once in a while I let loose with a swear word.

00:14:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so this particular group asked me not to.

00:14:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Swear and they put it thing in my thing.

00:14:56 Jeffrey Hayzlett

If I if I swore they were going to charge me in the contract, they were going to charge.

00:15:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, because they had a bad experience the year before and so I just said accept the contract.

00:15:06 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well, my son at the time was running my my business and of course they said, wait, you said yes, too fast.

00:15:13 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So then they came back and said they wanted to change the contract so like they were going to charge me so much for every word.

00:15:19 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So I'm going like, hey, this is like a game I'm going to say that many swear words and.

00:15:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Use it up.

00:15:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I mean, what the heck, you know?

00:15:24 Speaker 1

Right, right, right.

00:15:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And then then they did it where where if I said these words and they sent me a list of words that I couldn't use and I.

00:15:33 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I I mean, be honest with some of the cuss words on there I didn't know.

00:15:35 Jeffrey Hayzlett

The meaning of it.

00:15:36 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, it's like, why would?

00:15:37 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You say something like this and finally I said, yeah, say it right away.

00:15:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Go, go.

00:15:43 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And then they went, OK, no, that was too fast.

00:15:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That was too fast.

00:15:47 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So then they sent the next contract that if I said this one word, the F word.

00:15:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

OK.

00:15:52 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That they would not pay me, not paying me at all, not 100%. They were never going to pay me.

00:15:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I said I would get him on the phone.

00:16:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So we get him on the phone and and here's the chief legal counsel and a couple of the executives get a full major, major major company and.

00:16:10 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They they get on the phone.

00:16:12 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So what's the problem?

00:16:13 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They tell me what the problem is, I said.

00:16:15 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said they they said, well, if you say that one word, we're not going to pay you.

00:16:18 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said, wait, wait, what happens if I'm on the stage and some guy rushes the stage with the gun and I say, hey, F he's got a gun, right?

00:16:26 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said you your inability to protect me might lose my life and I'm going to lose my feet.

00:16:30 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That doesn't seem fair.

00:16:31 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So I and so.

00:16:33 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I just said, why don't you just ask me not to say it?

00:16:35 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They said, would you do that?

00:16:36 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said sure.

00:16:37 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I won't say.

00:16:38 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It yeah.

00:16:38 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And they said and then the attorney said, well, would you put that in writing?

00:16:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So I said go F yourself and I said now you can deal with it.

00:16:46 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so, but, you know, we agreed to it no problem, but not to the to the fact that they were going to, you know, kill my feet and I never.

00:16:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So I went out ahead of time, went to the thing.

00:16:56 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Went to the event, did the event.

00:16:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I I put everything I could into it 'cause I wanted to show them we could do this.

00:17:03 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And so I did it.

00:17:04 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I mean, people were crying, you could hear pins drop and I got 3 standing ovations at that talk.

00:17:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And and I gotta tell you this, after I walked off the stage, the CEO walked on the stage that says wasn't he ****** awesome?

00:17:21 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So that is probably one of my most memorable moments ever.

00:17:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I went back I.

00:17:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Turned to my.

00:17:26 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Friend and I said, tower, don't you ever make me sign something like that again, 'cause?

00:17:30 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm going to be me and that's when I said from now on, if somebody doesn't want it, that's their their thing.

00:17:35 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I'm going to be me and.

00:17:35 Charles Clark

Being all through.

00:17:36 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's what you hired, yeah.

00:17:38 Charles Clark

Yeah, I was just having a conversation with another speaker about that.

00:17:41 Charles Clark

Like you you you want me to change up who I am to?

00:17:44 Charles Clark

Fit the mold of who who you want.

00:17:46 Charles Clark

Oh yeah, right.

00:17:47 Charles Clark

Like, yeah, like.

00:17:48 Charles Clark

Yeah, let me, be me.

00:17:49 Charles Clark

Let me.

00:17:49 Charles Clark

That's the way I want to dress.

00:17:50 Charles Clark

Let me speak the way I want to speak.

00:17:52 Charles Clark

If not, like, get somebody else.

00:17:52 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Exactly. Yeah. So.

00:17:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I had I had a CEO CMO recently.

00:17:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They hired me for a speech during COVID and they.

00:18:00 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Said we want.

00:18:01 Jeffrey Hayzlett

To review her slides.

00:18:02 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said sure, here they are and they go well, we want you to.

00:18:04 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Walk us through what each slide is.

00:18:05 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They go no.

00:18:07 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:18:08 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And they go, I said.

00:18:09 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I don't need the slides, then, well, we want.

00:18:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You to have.

00:18:12 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Well then if I'm going to have slides, those are the slides I'm going to have.

00:18:15 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And they said, well, we want you to walk us through.

00:18:18 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said, listen, this is the theme.

00:18:20 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said you've seen the video.

00:18:21 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I've already sent you the video.

00:18:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

It's not going to change.

00:18:23 Jeffrey Hayzlett

The only thing that's going to happen is I'm going to insert your name here and here and they go, well, we'd like you to do this, this and this.

00:18:28 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And I said no, why don't you just do it?

00:18:31 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Save yourself $35,000. You do it. I don't have to do it and I don't have to do all this stuff.

00:18:37 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I said that you you obviously have something you want.

00:18:40 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You wanted me for this, and this is what you.

00:18:42 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Felt you needed.

00:18:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

And yet now.

00:18:44 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You're trying to control the message, so you can't have both of those things.

00:18:49 Charles Clark

Yeah, yeah.

00:18:49 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, but I tell you what.

00:18:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

If you really want me to do that, my fee is now $70,000 and I'm more than happy to do whatever you asked.

00:18:57 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Me to do.

00:18:58 Jeffrey Hayzlett

So they said no, we'll take the 35 and we.

00:19:01 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Love your slides so it's like home.

00:19:01 Charles Clark

Good. Let's go.

00:19:03

Yeah, we could.

00:19:04 Speaker 1

Yeah, but you gotta be willing to know.

00:19:05 Charles Clark

I just told.

00:19:07 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Who you are, what you do and how you do it.

00:19:09 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You can't.

00:19:09 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, it's like a lot of speakers will accept.

00:19:11 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Gigs that they're not good for, right?

00:19:13 Charles Clark

Or that aren't comfortable.

00:19:15 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You, I mean one of the things you you didn't ask me one time.

00:19:17 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I had to give a speech to 13 people one time then.

00:19:20 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They pay me full fee.

00:19:21 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That's probably the most.

00:19:22 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Uncomfortable speech I've ever done in my life.

00:19:25 Jeffrey Hayzlett

You know, you know how you.

00:19:27 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Just you're doing it, you're.

00:19:28 Jeffrey Hayzlett

On stage, you don't feel comfortable, you don't feel good.

00:19:30 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Good about it, but you're doing it because not it literally, it was 13 CEOs and they actually had 26 people and they had an attorney sitting behind each one of them because that was the industry at the time, was the pressure, sensitive tape counsel, wonderful people, wonderful people. But it was like, Oh my gosh, it was like the that they don't laugh.

00:19:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They don't smile.

00:19:51 Jeffrey Hayzlett

They're not, you know they're not.

00:19:53 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Yeah, tough.

00:19:54 Jeffrey Hayzlett

That was tough.

00:19:55 Charles Clark

Jeff man, I I really, I wish we could go on and on, but I know I gotta hop on a quick speech that's going on virtually right so.

00:20:01 Speaker 1

Go you.

00:20:03 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Gonna go do a speech?

00:20:04 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Go do a speech.

00:20:04

Yeah, yeah.

00:20:05 Jeffrey Hayzlett

I don't want to get the.

00:20:05 Jeffrey Hayzlett

Way between you and a gig.

00:20:06 Charles Clark
